Guaifenesin Protocol by Dr. St. Amand

Dr. Paul St. Amand has been an Assistant Clinical Professor of Endocrinology at Harbor-UCLA for over 45 years. Throughout his years of practice, Dr. St. Amand has focused on Fibromyalgia, authoring the book What Your Doctor May Not Tell You about Fibromyalgia. Another development is the guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand, which has caused some patients to experience a reversal of their symptoms.

The guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand takes into consideration that excess calcium and inorganic phosphate compounds build up in cells and create a condition called hyperpermeability. This causes an excess of fluids and other substances to flood cell mitochondria, resulting in a disruption in the production of ATP, the substance which provides energy to the body.

Guaifenesin is the basis of the guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand. Guaifenesin is traditionally used to thin mucus, but in the guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand, it is used to thin the fluids that disrupt the production of ATP. These areas are often found in swollen places in muscles and joints. These areas are then mapped by the physician so that they can be evaluated throughout the protocol. Patients take increasing amounts of guaifenesin until they reach their peak. Then they enter the reversal stage, at which they will be slowly weaned from the protocol.

Many people have never heard of guaifenesin before, but guaifenesin is a safe product that can be easily found in many over the counter drugs, such as Mucinex. The drug has few know adverse side effects, and it is safe for children to use guaifenesin.

While patients are on the guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St. Amand, it is vital that patients avoid salicylates. Salicylates can be found in many products, and exposure to salicylates can cause the guaifenesin protocol to fail. Salicylates are found in the following products:

  • Pain products such as Excedrin and aspirin
  • Herbal medications- St. John’s Wort, Saw Palmetto, and Ginko Biloba
  • Wart removers and acne medications
  • Cosmetics, lotions, shampoos, and shaving creams containing aloe, lavender, ginseng, almond or grape seed oils, or other plant extracts
  • Sunscreens
  • Deodorants containing castor oil
  • Lipstick and other lip balms
  • Mouthwash
  • Mint flavored toothpastes
  • Chewing gum, lozenges, candies, dental floss

For individuals who are patient and remain committed to the guaifenesin protocol by Dr. St Amand, they may experience a reversal of their painful and often debilitating symptoms.
